... to be believed.

At the Gridlife event this past weekend at Road Atlanta Chris Forsberg, followed by Ryan Tuerck, initiates his drift at “somewhere between 145 - 155 MPH” at what is the normal Road Atlanta Formula Drift 0 MPH starting line.

They drifted the normal FD course on Friday and Saturday along with a stretch of the essess on the opposite side of the track. On Sunday they went to full course drifting for the pros. That enabled the above.

They were also drifting under the bridge and down the hill onto the front stretch. What a show!

Video from Nick Swan (I think) on facebook (that’s where I got the link from) shared by Chris Forsberg.

To put it in perspective these runs were on Saturday and started from the normal FD start position.

Let’s go down the list:

Racing machines based on production unibodies: CHECK!

Massive power output: CHECK!

The ballsiest drivers on the planet: DOUBLE CHECK!

NASCAR is dying, Time Attack is too nerdy, and nobody gives a fuck about any of the others. Formula D is what NASCAR was in the good-old days. It’s raw performance on the ragged edge in chassis that you can actually go out and buy. You don’t need to be a car geek to appreciate what’s going on here. Pure fun!

Long live Formula D!

That’s full on. I can see why the competition course starts at 0 there though, that would be way way too dangerous for repeated runs. As far as I know, the fastest full national level competition drift initiation is around 200kmh/120mph, however that is around a corner that normally gets taken anywhere up to 220-230kmh in normal racing. This is throwing a car sideways into a 100kmh corner at 240kmh and hoping to shed enough speed coming in. Mental.
